North Downs Sinfonia (NDS) known as 'the friendly orchestra' is an entirely voluntary orchestra which meets to rehearse once a month, on Sunday between 2pm and 5pm in the Village Hall, and holds concerts twice a year, in May and November, although our activities have of course been limited recently due to the Covid pandemic.
We do not have a resident conductor, but invite conductors in for each concert and associated rehearsals.
If you are grade 7 or above, and would like to join, please telephone or email the Secretary, Peter Maynard, on 01959 577659 or northdownssinfonia@gmail.com.
Friday afternoons from 1:30pm to 4:15pm
We have a very happy and friendly membership. We play league matches and friendly matches with local clubs as well as informal games between ourselves. We organise seasonal outings for lunch and arrange a skittles evening once a year.
New members are always welcome, especially in the summer when several members switch to playing outdoor flat green bowls, always of course returning to the fold for the winter short mat sessions. If you would like to "Have a Go ", just come along to the Village Hall. We have plenty of spare bowls for you to try out. We only ask that you wear smooth-soled shoes or just thick socks, as ordinary shoes ruin our mats.
Age is not an obstacle - we range from 19 (they started at 7) to 90 plus.
If you'd like to find out more first, use the contact form on this web site and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.
